$5,000 Bethpage Federal Credit Union Big Money Open

East End Volleyball brings you the second annual beach volleyball tournament sposored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. The tournament will attract some of the top players from the northeastern region of the United States. Players will compete for a lionshare of $5,000 in cash prizes.
Top female athletes Dana Fiume of Merrick, NY and Hilary Pavels of West Hempstead, NY will be the team to beat. The duo has competed and placed in several AVP events this year and has been dominating Volley America tournaments in the Northeast. Other top challengers include Melanie Pavels who competes at the collegiate level at Florida State University and 4-time All-American at Stevens Institute of Technology, Maggie Kowalska of Hoboken, NJ. Top male players include Greg Hunter of West Hempstead, NY and partner Mike Salak of Brooklyn, NY. Other top male contenders include Kyle O'Neill of Long Beach, NY, Kris Fraser from Edison, NJ, Eric Zaun of Cherry Hill, NJ and Shane Donahue from Freehold, NJ.
Tournament play will begin on Saturday, August 15 at 9 am at Riverside Blvd in Long Beach, NY. The format will be double elimination for men's and women's open divisions. Women's finals will conclude Saturday evening, time permitting. Men's finals will be held on Sunday morning at 10 am. Admission is free for all spectators.
The tournament is sanctioned by Volley America. Volley America is the largest grass roots outdoor volleyball organization in the United States. Created in 2011 by East End Volleyball and Great American Volleyball, Volley America has member organizations from throughout the US. The goal of Volley America is to foster cooperation among beach & grass volleyball promoters throughout the United States to build up the sport. This is being done with the following items visible at www.VolleyAmerica.com:National Ranking System based on player’s results from tournaments throughout the US, online registration that seeds players based on National Ranking System in all divisions, Beach Grand Prix Program that awards $30,000 cash prizes based on results from the year’s tournaments, professional to novice for male, female and coed tournament players, Grass Grand Prix awards $10,000 based on a player’s results in grass tournaments, Doubles National Championship Tournament for beach teams. Players can win trips to the nationals by winning regional championship tournaments. A Grass Nationals will be created in the next couple of years. League National Championships for league teams that win their regional championships, a junior program with tournaments, clinics and a Junior Nationals, and Regional Championships that send players to the Nationals are all features of the Volley America program.
