Description

On October 11th, the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) will celebrate its 8th Annual Long Island VisionWalk at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, New York. The event is the Foundation’s signature walkathon fundraiser that has raised more than $32 million since its inception in 2006.

The event is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to your community and be a partner in the fight to cure blindness. Over 500 participants are expected to attend the VisionWalk and will feature fun activities, refreshments, music, inspiring speeches and many more. Your support is critical to not only the Walk but to but to also help those affected with retinal degenerative diseases. For more information on the Walk, please visit www.FightBlindness.org/LongIslandVisionWalk. The event is free and open to the public.

The Foundation’s name says it all -- a national non-profit organization on a steadfast mission to fight blindness. Specifically, FFB funds the research that is making possible treatments and cures for retinal diseases that affect more than 10 million people in the United States and millions more around the globe. These conditions cause people of all ages, from newborns to retirees, to lose their sight and, in many cases, go completely blind. As most are inherited, these diseases are passed down within families, from generation to generation.

Thanks to the Foundation’s leadership, innovation and singular focus on eradicating blindness, the future for patients living retinal diseases is bright. Over the last four decades, the Foundation has raised more than half a billion dollars toward its mission, and is funding truly cutting-edge research in a number of promising areas, including gene therapy, stem cells and drug development. In ongoing clinical trials, Foundation-funded scientists are actually restoring sight for people with a rare disease that causes blindness in children. It is this success we are working to replicate for all vision-robbing diseases. To learn more about the Foundation, please visit www.FightBlindness.org.
