Description

During the golden age of the whaling industry in the mid-19th century Sag Harbor had more than 50 whaling vessels in its fleet and rivaled New Bedford as a major whaling port. The harbor bustled with maritime activity and the streets teemed with exotic sailors from foreign lands. It was a brief but extremely prosperous time for the village where the handsome homes of Captain’s Row, the unique Whalers Church and many other landmarks are testimony to Sag Harbor’s prominence.  Tony Garro will cover many of the highlights in his tour. Co-sponsored by the Southampton Historical Museum and Rogers Memorial Library.
