Description

The film is a biographical documentary about a soldier named Li who survived the Chinese Civil War by shifting his identity and opportunistically fighting for both the nationalists and the communists.

Li joined the army at a very early age not because of his political beliefs, but simply to survive by fighting for those who fed him. The war brought him to Taipei, Taiwan where he spent six decades seeking to fit in and end his isolation. He never had a chance to return to his home town of Hebei, but he visited it countless times in his dreams - where he continually saw blood flowing everywhere. At the age of 60, he separated from his wife and children and lived alone for 20 years with the sad realization that so much of his life wasted in battle during wartime.

“Hebei, Taipei” was 15 years in the making and was conceived by the soldier’s daughter, Li Nien-Hsiu in an effort to understand her father’s rootless life and heal their relationship. The film is produced by Taiwan Cinema Toolkit. The Taipei Cultural Center of TECO and the Farmingdale Public Library are sponsoring the presentation. Admission to the screening is free with preference given to USFD #22 residents. Light refreshments will be served. The library is located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale.
