Description

Have you ever wondered why we practice separation of church and state? Or enjoy democracy and the rule of law? As Americans we hold these concepts dear-our republic was founded on them and we find them in our Constitution, of which James Madison was the main author. In this fascinating discussion of the "Many Heads and Many Hands" that led to the development of the U.S. Constitution, author Mau VanDuren will provide us with an in-depth appreciation of the important contributions of the Dutch.

In particular, we will learn about Francis Doughty, who while a resident of western Long Island (then New Netherland) was a pioneer of American civil liberty. He mixed with the movers and shakers, lived the beginnings of what would become the American nation, and inspired others like James Madison to follow suit. Includes wine & cheese, book sale and signing, and admission to current exhibits.

Members Free; Non-Members $5. RSVP Requested: 631-727-2881 x100.
