Description

“Branching Out”, a fine craft exhibit presented by the Long Island Craft Guild, features 83 pieces of fine craft created by 35 Long Island artists. The exhibit is on view in the Art League of Long Island’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery October 8 through November 6.

The artists were challenged to interpret the phrase “branching out” and creatively render their visions in forms such as clay, fiber, glass, paper, mixed media, metal/jewelry and wood.  The phrase “branching out” suggests an exploration of new ideas, new directions, and new mediums.  Whether their interpretations are literal or figurative, the artists were invited to expand, investigate, unfold, and wander to a new location. Familiar materials used in different combinations or techniques transform into something completely different to the eye of the beholder.

Exhibition juror is Cornelia Reina, whose paintings and drawings have been exhibited across Long Island, include the venerable Heckscher Museum.  Ms. Reina is also a teacher of art and off-loom weaving techniques, as well as owner of Showcase Gallery of Fine Contemporary Crafts in Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor for 10 years.

An artist’s reception will take place on Sunday, October 16 from 1pm to 3pm.   A Gallery Talk on November 6 from 2pm to 4pm concludes the exhibit.

The Art League of Long Island is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills. The gallery is open to the public, free of charge, Monday through Thursday 9am - 9pm, Fridays 9am – 4pm, and on weekends 11am - 4pm.  For more information about the Art League visit www.artleagueli.org or call (631) 462-5400.
