Poetry may be the song of great wordsmiths. It is also the literary tool of the common person. When expectation and intimidation are set aside, everyone can use poetry for self-discovery and self-expression. Unlike other forms of writing, poetry does not require any adherence to rules of style, tone, grammar or punctuation. Nor does poetry demand intense research to be profound. It simply asks the writer to feel and to tap from within. Motivational speaker Constance Hallinan Lagan presents poetry as the everyday expression of life’s events and one’s emotional response to those events. It requires quiet moments and solitary searching. Each participant enjoys a “light bulb moment” when s/he realizes, “I’m a poet!” This seminar is interactive and hands-on, requiring participants to actively participate in the discussion and to set pen to paper. Topics covered include discovering words that resonate, looking within for emotional connection to those words, defining self by exploring spirit, and meditating to resonate/connect/define.
