An excess of “stuff” creates an excess of stress. The happiest individuals are those with the least “stuff.” The more “stuff” in one’s life, the more energy, time and financial resources are needed to protect those possessions. As stress increases, peace and joy decrease. De-cluttering one’s physical environment often leads to discarding negativity, pessimism and hopelessness as well. Motivational speaker Constance Hallinan Lagan presents tips on clearing out and cleaning up one’s personal space and illustrates how de-cluttering can become a synonym for gratitude, generosity and peace. Rather than feeling deprived of possessions one no longer uses (scarcity), one feels a greater appreciation for what one allows into one’s space (abundance).
