Helping Hands in West Islip, Inc. will be accepting donations of filled Easter baskets and miscellaneous gift items for its annual Spring Gift/Easter Basket Drive on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 2:30-5:30PM, at the West Islip Fire Department, 309 Union Boulevard, West Islip. We can only accept donations on that date and time as we have no storage facility.
The baskets should contain the usual bunnies, plastic eggs, candies, small toys, slippers, socks, or any items that can be used by children at homeless shelters and community centers such as Gerald Ryan Outreach, Faith House of Prayer and Headstart. You can also stay to help package and wrap the extra donated treats. It’s after school hours so bring the kids; it’s a lot of fun. Please bring your own scissors, tape, ribbons and a bag of candy. Last year we were able to help twenty-two organizations and many local families with over 4,000 gifts; this year with your continued generous support we hope to help even more.
The Foster Grandparents Program of Suffolk County will host a hospitality table for all the hungry, hardworking volunteers. We are always pleased to welcome them to our Helping Hands programs, whereas, it is one more way folks of all ages can join hands to “change the world, thru kindness one smile at a time.”
Helping Hands operates on a zero budget and is always in desperate need of supplies such as tape, brown lunch bags and large trash bags (for distribution), and lots and lots of candy. We would be grateful if you would consider a keeping a collection box at your work place, holding a carwash, lemonade stand, garage sale, bake sale or even a “home party” with proceeds donated to our drives.
