Description

   "Famous Nathan, A Family Saga of Coney Island, the American Dream and the Search for the Perfect Hot Dog," with Lloyd Handwerker, will be held at Temple Israel of Lawrence, 140 Central Avenue, lawrence, on Friday, November 18, 2016, starting at 10:30 a.m.

   Starting with five feet og counter space on Coney Island's undeveloped boardwalk, Nathan Handwerker opened Nathan's Famous, a business that quickly spanned the globe, launching the hot dog as an American food staple and Nathan himself to national fame.

   "Famous Nathan" chronicles the extraordinary life of an immigrant looking for a better life for himself and his family, with Lloyd Handwerker. Lloyd, a descendant of Nathan Handwerker, is a filmmaker, writer and director of the documentary "Famous Nathan," the companion piece to the book.
