The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Wind Advisory...which is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 4 PM EST Saturday. * Locations...southeast New York...northeast New Jersey and southern Connecticut. * Hazards...strong winds. * Winds...northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts 45 to 50 mph. * Timing...tonight into Saturday afternoon. * Impacts...the strong winds may down some tree limbs and power lines...and make driving high profile vehicles difficult...especially on elevated roadways and bridges. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph... or gusts of 46 to 57 mph...are expected or occurring. Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor a FREE visual lecture “Color In Your Garden Throughout The Year” with Nassau County Master Gardener Barbara Ann Levine on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Library located at 60 Seventh St., in Garden City. Our guest speaker will share her expertise in creating gardens that show colorful flowers during the entire year - including winter! Gain fascinating insights about succession planting. Master Gardener, Barbara Ann Levine, is a past president of the Long Island Horticultural Society and has appeared on TV channels 7 & 12. She has served as a docent at the New York Botanical Gardens, currently gives monthly “Talks & Tours” at Old Westbury Gardens and has been a guest speaker at Hicks Nursery, Clark Garden, Johnson & Johnson, and numerous garden clubs. “Ever since I was old enough to hold a trowel in my hand, I have been a passionate gardener.”
