Description

On Wed., Oct. 22nd, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet hosts Bob Doxsee as he gives a presentation on the history of his family (Doxsee Clam Juice) from agriculture to fin and shell fishing.  The program will cover his great-grandfather, J.H. Doxsee, moving from farming to fishing in Isilp in 1865, his grandfather, John C. Doxsee, setting up a pound fish camp (1900-1944), and his father and uncle changing to surf clam harvesting and processing, which Bob eventually took over (1944-2012).  Mr. Doxsee will show both still pictures and a DVD converted from movies made by his father circa 1940 of the pound fishing operation.  The program will be held at the Islip Public Library, 71 Monell Ave., 7-9 pm, and is free and open to the public.  For more info, 631/245-0675, www.isliphamlethistory.org.
