Description

Henry Highland Garnet (1815-1882): A Journey from Slave to Abolitionist to U.S. Ambassador

On display February 10 - March 3, 2017

Although one of the most well-known African Americans of the 19th century, Rev. Henry Highland Garnet is little remembered today. Even less remembered is his connection with Suffolk County. This exhibit tells his story: "My whole life is consecrated to the cause of Liberty... I shall feel free to raise my feeble voice for equal justice..
