Description

On Sunday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m., Emma Clark Library will be honoring Three Village authors at a celebratory reception.  This event is a chance for the public to meet many of the author-neighbors whose works they’ve come to know – or hope to know – through the library’s Local Focus Collection.  There is no need to register, and all are welcome (not just local residents).

The afternoon will begin with an hour of mingling and conversation in the historic 1890’s periodical reading room, followed by light refreshments in the Vincent R. O’ Leary Community Room on the lower level of the library.  Local authors will be signing copies of their books, and books will also be available for purchase.  This occasion gives local authors the chance to meet their readers and each other and allows the library to thank the authors for sharing their writing with the Three Village community.

The Local Focus Collection, which began in 2013, invites authors who live or work in and around the Three Village Community to donate one copy of each of their published books to the library.  With the advent of this collection, “our” authors gained a way to speed their books to library shelves (and readers) without having to wait for their books to be professionally reviewed.  The library welcomes books written for both adults and children.  Titles more appropriate for children are housed in the Children’s Room.  The collections are shelved alphabetically by author, keeping the focus where it belongs – on the authors.  Books are searchable by both title and author in the library catalog.  To date, over 50 local authors have donated copies of their books to our collection.

These authors have truly enriched the library’s collection, and Emma Clark Library is thrilled to honor their generosity and support.
