The evolution of photography is paralleled and illustrated in this evocative program by Long Island artist, resident, and educator Holly Gordon; who has traveled the world…yet is continually daunted by the visual bounty of her home turf…the Long Island landscape.
This presentation has been designed especially for Long Island Photo Gallery and provides insight into the expansive possibilities of the personal relationship between camera and EYE and boundless inspiration from Long Island.
Pictured above, 'Three Parasols' was photographed with film and developed and printed traditionally in the wet-darkroom in the 1990’s. 'Indian Summer', a recent image from the Brush/Lens Project exhibitions and collaboration with North Shore painter Ward Hooper, was taken digitally and developed and created in the digital darkroom.
The creative journey between these two works, before and beyond, will be explored, shared and discussed during this presentation.
While technology has made it easy and successful for everyone to take pictures today…it has created a plethora of sameness.
