Description

Paddlers for Humanity is hosting the 10th Anniversary of its largest event, the Block Challenge, on Saturday, August 29. Back in 2005, the very first 18-mile open ocean paddle from Montauk to Block Island served as the inspiration behind forming the organization. Since it was officially founded in 2008, the local not-for-profit has donates over $700,000 to projects and programs dedicated to benefiting the lives of children on the East End and beyond.

Starting at 6:30 a.m., the approximately six hour paddle will begin on the north side of the Montauk Lighthouse (2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954) and end at Champlin’s Marina (West Side Road, Block Island, RI 02807). Once on Block Island, paddlers will celebrate their accomplishment with a catered and a ceremony thanking paddlers, support boat volunteers, friends and donors. A return ferry ride to Montauk courtesy of the Montauk-Block Island Ferry from Viking Fleet departs Block Island at 5 p.m.
