Description

Port Washington Rocks: The Latest Trend in Treasure Hunting

Rock Out at Port Washington's first Rock Painting Party and help create over 1,000 new rocks to share and hide throughout the neighborhood and surrounding areas.
Port Washington Rocks, founded by the non-profit organization Full STEAMM Ahead, is a local group that was created to paint rocks and scatter them around neighborhoods to spread kindness and positive messages throughout the community. The overall goal is to encourage people to create beautiful art and to recognize that this creation can brighten somebody’s day.  Participants will learn various techniques using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math and Mindfulness (STEAMM) to create their unique piece of stone art. All artists will then label the back of their stones with the words Port Washington Rocks Facebook Page. At the end of the event all participants are encouraged to hide their rocks in some unexpected location in Port Washington. When the rock is discovered, hopefully, the lucky finder will post on our Facebook page so that you can see your creation again! The finder can then keep the rock if it really moves them, or hide it again to share the love!
Activities include:
-Learn various rock painting techniques taught by local artists
-Create a personal and group Mandala
-Practice The Art of Balancing Stone Meditation.
-Explore the scientific concept of Chemiluminescence and produce your own glowing stone
-Create your rock slime
- Roasting Marshmallows around the campfire while learning the chemistry behind producing a color changing flame.
-Experience the magic of monarch butterflies by the Long Island Monarch Butterfly Alliance

Throughout the evening singer/songwriter Dave Diamond will be indulge our senses by playing Djembe and assorted hand drums

This event takes place out on the green lawn. Participants are encouraged to "dress for mess" and to bring warm clothing, beach chairs, blankets, and a picnic.
