Description

Broadway star Kara Lindsay will perform a range of show tunes at the Reach for a Star Luncheon — an annual spring fundraiser that benefits extracurricular and after-school programs for children with severe physical disabilities at the Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center. Lindsay, who recently played Cynthia Weil opposite Chilina Kennedy in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, has also appeared in several big-name musicals, including Wicked (Glinda) and Newsies (Katherine).

Based in Albertson, the Henry Viscardi School serves children and young adults who often require special transportation and life-sustaining medical care throughout the day. Its specialized educational setting provides a fully-enriched academic program, a variety of therapies, assistive technology, and medical supports for students who would otherwise need to receive instruction at home or in a hospital.

For many students at the Henry Viscardi School, options for socializing outside of the classroom are limited. The Luncheon raises vital funds for clubs, adapted sports, and recreational overnights that afford students the means to safely spend time with friends outside of school, broaden their interests, and share new experiences. It also gives student attendees the rare opportunity to enjoy live music and share the spotlight with a Broadway performer.

The event offers an elaborate cocktail hour, sit-down lunch, chance raffle and silent auction, and live entertainment. Past entertainers have included Jennifer DiNoia, Elphaba in WICKED; Chilina Kennedy, star of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical; Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of NBC’s TODAY and correspondent for Dateline NBC; the cast of Kinky Boots; and Elise Testone, finalist on American Idol.
