Astronomy Extravaganza at Stony Brook University, Friday, April 28
Free, fun and educational annual event for families, students and stargazers to observe celestial bodies not visible to the naked eye.
WHAT:
The Seventh Annual AstroFest is a yearly celebration hosted by the Stony Brook University Astronomy Club. This special educational event is geared toward families, students and amateur astronomers and will feature interactive astronomy and physics demonstrations, guided tours of the campus-scale model of the solar system, and the opportunity to observe celestial bodies not visible to the naked eye using the University’s state-of-the-art high power telescopes. Visitors will be able to view the planet Jupiter and its four largest moons, the Great Cluster in Hercules, and Earth’s moon and Sun in great detail. In addition, there will be games, free raffles, prizes and refreshments. AstroFest is one of the largest astronomy events on Long Island and has had annually attendance in the hundreds since 2011.
