Description

What’s one of the best parts of coming to the library?  Meeting with friends in the community and sharing in your love of libraries together!

We’ve once again joined the international initiative in celebration of “Take Your Child to the Library Day.”  On Thursday, February 23, between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (this is during the school's Winter Break), we’ll have face painting, temporary tattoos, balloon sculpting, and crafts, in addition to the all of the daily services and resources that the library has to offer.  These benefits include books, audio books, computers, tablets, movies, music, toys and puzzles…all free!
Additionally, in keeping with the festivities of “Take Your Child to the Library Day”, each new library card sign-up on February 23 will be entered in a raffle.  You’re never too young for a library card.  Patrons may obtain one from birth and immediately start enjoying the library’s resources, such as the “Time for Baby” program.
There is no need to register for “Take Your Child to the Library Day”, and all families are welcome (residents and nonresidents).  Last year, there were close to 400 people for the event, and we also had a record for the number of new library card sign-ups in one day.  Stop by the event and help us to surpass that number this year!

Why is it so vital for children to visit the library?  The library is a symbol of lifelong learning and that lesson starts right from infancy.  Listed here are just a few of the (free!) benefits of bringing your children to the library:

  • Books, Audio Books, and Read-a-longs – promote literacy, as well as a lifetime of reading for pleasure and learning
  • Computers, Tablets, and Free Wifi – provide access to technology and online resources to develop digital literacy skills regardless of family income
  • Movies and Music – additional opportunities for both family entertainment and education
  • Storytimes and performances – interactive and hands-on learning experiences
  • Toys & Puzzles – encourage fine motor skills, gross motor skills, coordination, and more
