Precautionary/preparedness actions... A frost advisory means that frost is expected. Sensitive outdoor plants should be protected. , "Special Statement" ...Gusty winds today... Northwest winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph today. Some wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph. With trees still partially to full foliage, these higher wind gusts could take down some tree limbs or small trees and hence may cause some power outages. Description

"The City of Long Beach is pleased to host the 2nd Annual Earth Day in Kennedy Plaza, powered by PSEG-LI, on Sunday, April 22, 2018.  The event will take place in Kennedy Plaza (1 West Chester St, Long Beach, NY) from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, preceded by the Jellyfish Jamboree on the Boardwalk at Riverside at 11:30am. We hope you join us in thinking globally and acting locally! 

Here's what you can find on Earth Day 2018: 

  • March in the Jellyfish Jamboree - make a sea creature out of recyclables and show off your creativity as we march along the boardwalk. Line up at Riverside on the Boardwalk at 11:30 am, marching to National Blvd and up to Kennedy Plaza for fun and games! All participants will receive a sand dollar, good for discounts at local restaurants and businesses. Awards for best costume will be presented to the most creative sea creatures! All applications must be submitted by April 15, 2018. Click here for the application.
  • Post a photo on Earth Day taking action and use #EarthDayLBNY to be entered into a chance to win a free beach pass for the season! Proof of residency will be required. Creativity & effectiveness will be factored! For ideas, please click here.
