“5K Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” Benefits Local Patients

Riverhead – The North Fork Breast Health Coalition is holding the 17th annual “5K Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” on Sunday, September 27. The fundraiser takes place at the Riverhead location of Tanger Outlet Center, which sponsors the event. Participants can pre-register or register from 7:30-8:45 AM that morning. The walk begins at 9 AM.

The registration fee to participate in the 5K Walk is $20 if paid by September 17 and $25 if paid on the day of the event. The first 300 entrants will receive an official walk gift bag. Walkers who have registered by September 18 will be guaranteed a gift bag.

Walkers are encouraged to gather pledges of support from friends, family and colleagues. Top fundraising awards will be given in the following categories: Young Adult, Adult, Business/Team and Breast Cancer Survivor. You must be at least age 13 to participate in the event.

Before the opening ceremony starts at 8:45 AM, registrants can prepare themselves by enjoying a continental breakfast that includes bagels, muffins and fruit. There will also be an opportunity to buy raffle tickets for dozens of beautiful prizes donated by Tanger Outlet stores and other local businesses.

Although it is possible to sign up that day, registration in advance is recommended. To register or obtain more information, call 631-208-8889 or e-mail NFBHC@optonline.net. Opportunities to participate as a sponsor of the event are still available.

Currently led by Susan Ruffini, the all-volunteer, non-profit organization supports local breast-cancer patients with programs such as the Helping Hand grants. Funds raised by the event will also allow the group to continue to provide free services such as yoga, massage therapy, reflexology and support groups to breast-cancer patients and survivors.
