Date & Time
Gene Austin, whose father was an active participant in the thriving oyster business off Greenport and taught his son everything he knew, will bring his knowledge of the fishery’s history and practices to the Rogers Mansion in a presentation illustrated with his collection of memorabilia and artifacts. To the careful record his father kept of his time on the water, Mr. Austin will add his own observations and fascinating facts found in the course of his research into oysters and the mariners who brought them to shore to satisfy a nation’s voracious appetite for its favorite bivalve. Co-sponsored with the Rogers Memorial Library.
