"Flash Flood Watch" ...Flash Flood Watch in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, including the following areas, in southern Connecticut, northern Fairfield, northern Middlesex, northern New Haven, northern New London, southern Fairfield, southern Middlesex, southern New Haven, and southern New London. In northeast New Jersey, eastern Bergen, eastern Essex, eastern Passaic, eastern Union, Hudson, western Bergen, western Essex, western Passaic, and western Union. In southeast New York, Bronx, Kings (brooklyn), New York (manhattan), northeastern Suffolk, northern Nassau, northern Queens, northern Westchester, northwestern Suffolk, Orange, Putnam, Richmond (staten island), Rockland, southeastern Suffolk, southern Nassau, southern Queens, southern Westchester, and southwestern Suffolk. * From Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon * low pressure approaches the tri-state area today and passes through on Thursday. Rain tonight becomes potentially heavy at times Thursday morning with the potential of heavy downpours into early afternoon. A total of 1.25 to 2.50 inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts could occur with this event, however most of it falls during Thursday. Flash flooding of urban and poor drainage areas, as well as small streams will therefore be possible Thursday. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts (BAFFA) will present its annual High School Juried Art Show from Sunday, April 15th through Sunday, April 22nd. The annual invitational show is open to all local high schools in the school districts in the area. Participating high schools include Sayville, Sachem North, Sachem East, Connetquot, Bellport, Longwood, William Floyd, and Patchogue-Medford.  Exceptional art works in all media receive ribbon awards including Best in Show. The Jacqueline Palmer Scholarship Award is given to a graduating senior who plans to pursue further art education at a college level.

The show opens on Sunday, April 15th with a reception for students, parents, teachers and the public from 1 to 4 PM. The BAFFA Art Gallery is at 47 Gillette Avenue in Sayville. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 1 PM. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
