Description

Come spend 3 Sunday afternoons at Walt Whitman Birthplace (11/4, 11/11, 11/18) and explore how Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass“ shaped and influenced the artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Walt Whitman regarded visual artworks as being poems themselves and in turn imagined his own poems as paintings. Whitman strived to recreate the vividness of visual art through his language. It’s no wonder that his words struck a cord with visual artists. Join us for a 3 part lecture series where you will also have the opportunity to engage in hands on art instruction. Learn about some of the artists that were influenced by Walt Whitman and see how their art was impacted by his words. Students will also create original works of art using “plein air” techniques and a variety of multimedia materials such as acrylics and oil pastels. Materials provided for first class.

Appropriate for adults 16 years and older.

Cost $15 for members and $20 for non-members
