Singer and Broadway star T. Oliver Reid makes his AUPAC debut with his Bistro Award-winning show Drop Me Off in Harlem—a club-hopping journey through the elegant nightclubs and working-class speakeasies of 1934 Harlem, using the music of Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, Andy Razafand more as a guide.
Funny, informative and a consummate showman, Reid performs each number with the unmistakable dramatic flair of a musical theater veteran (seen most recently on Broadway in the critically acclaimed After Midnight), and provides an overview of the clubs,musicians and social context of the music. As he says in his show, “In 1934, on a Saturday night in New York City, if you were boozin’ and jazzin’, you were doing it in Harlem.” Eighty years later, we’re doing it here at AUPAC
