Description

The 2019 winner of the Gold Coast International Film Festival’s Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature, “The Keeper” returns for an encore screening on Thursday, December 12, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at the Great Neck Cinemas at the Squire, 115 Middle Neck Rd., Great Neck.

“The Keeper”  is the incredible true story of Bert Trautmann (David Kross), a World War II German soldier and prisoner of war who, against a backdrop of British post-war protest and prejudice, secures the position of the goalkeeper at Manchester City soccer team, and in so doing becomes a football icon. His signing causes outrage to thousands of fans, many of them Jewish. But Bert receives support from an unexpected direction: Rabbi Alexander Altmann, who fled the Nazis. Bert’s love for Margaret (Freya Mavor), an Englishwoman, carries him through, and he wins over even his harshest opponents by winning the 1956 FA Cup Final, playing with a broken neck to secure victory. But fate will soon turn for Bert and Margaret when their love and loyalty to each other is out to the test.

“The Keeper” is directed by award-winning German film director and screenwriter Marcus H. Rosenmüller, known for “Grave Decisions” (2006), and “Die Perlmutterfarbe” (2009).

Tickets are $15 Adults / $10 Members and can be purchased online at www.goldcoastarts.org.
