Description

The 2018 Gold Coast International Film Festival is launching on November 2, 2018, with the Long Island premiere screening of Deconstructing the Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour, followed by a filmmaker Q&A, and a live performance of the album’s best tracks by Beatles tribute band Penny Lane.

The evening begins at 7 p.m. at the Bow Tie Squire Cinemas in Great Neck, located at 115 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, NY 11021 with the screening of the film followed by an in-person Q&A with “Deconstructing the Beatles” creator Scott Freiman, an internationally recognized expert on the Fab Four.

After the Q&A, the party continues next door at the Gold Coast Arts Center (113 Middle Neck Road), where guests can grab a drink and dessert and enjoy a concert by the Long Island cover band, Penny Lane.

“We have screened many of the films in the “Deconstructing the Beatles” series in recent years, and each one of them has been a sold-out hit,” says Caroline Sorokoff, festival director of the Gold Coast International Film Festival. “Beatles fans and music lovers in general absolutely love these films. We knew that the latest release in the series would be an ideal way to start this year’s festival.”

In the series, Mr. Freiman conducts multimedia presentations on the composition and production techniques of one of the most iconic brands in history.  He brings to life the Beatles’ recording sessions in Abbey Road Studio with anecdotes that enable fans to experience the evolution of the band’s groundbreaking albums and songs.  In Deconstructing the Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour, Mr. Freiman delves into the creative process behind songs from the Magical Mystery Tour album and film, including “The Fool on the Hill,” “Blue Jay Way,” “I Am the Walrus,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” and “All You Need is Love.”

Tickets to the film, Q&A, concert, and drinks are $65 ($60 for festival members).  Tickets to the film and Q&A alone are $25 ($20 for members).  Also available are raffle tickets for Beatles-themed prices, at $10/ticket or a three-pack for $20. Proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit Gold Coast Arts Center’s year-round arts and education programs which impact thousands of children and adults each year through GCAC’s School for the Arts, school outreach efforts, programs for seniors and veterans and the Arts Center’s scholarship fund.
