Special Weather Statement issued February 18 at 7:26PM EST by NWS Upton NY Fog will remain across the region through this evening, with visibilities generally around 1 mile. At times the fog will become locally dense and visibilities will vary with local visibilities a quarter of a mile or less. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and to be alert for sudden reduced visibilities. Allow extra time to reach your destination, and if you encounter fog, reduce speed and increase following distance with the vehicle in front of you. And drive with low beams. visibilities are expected to improve toward midnight.

Join Eastern Audubon’s Byron Young during this citizen science birding walk on Fire Island. Observe, identify, count and document the variety of birds found on the barrier island and in our local waters. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy nature in winter and contribute to science and bird conservation efforts. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. 1.5 miles round trip.
