Here, to Just Listen

Why We Support this Ministry:

A significant number of young people within our communities find themselves searching for a lost connection. They are no longer in high school and have lost connections with their former circle of friends; they may now be attending college classes – where the size of the classes makes it difficult to form personal relationships; they have just entered the employment process, accepting jobs because they need to earn income, but are uncertain as to their actual career path. These circumstances contribute to a growing sense disconnection. We believe that re-establishing a “sense of belonging”, by providing a setting where our young people feel they belong, by providing a place where they “fit in”, a place where they are accepted and offers the opportunity to be heard, reflects the command to “Love One Another” and is something we must initiate to help our young adults in their life journey.

Our Goals

  • Establish the Church as that safe place, where young adults (ages 19-27), many of whom may be in crisis and do not know where to turn, can come and find comfort in the fact that someone is there to simply listen to them.
  • This joint ministry between Bellmore United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church of Seaford will be available weekly  to listen, not preach, not conduct a bible study…but to Just Listen to the issues keenly and actively, to Hear the concerns and struggles, and acknowledge and Celebrate the accomplishments of our younger adults.
  • An additional component of this ministry is that we will offer bags of food staples for those who are in need.
  • As the Holy Spirit leads, we will offer individual and or group prayer, and seek to be a resource that can, if needed direct them to appropriate community service organizations.
