Ye Towne Street, now Main Street, was laid out in 1648 and was initially more residential than commercial. Gradually businesses became predominant and today no private homes remain in the village center. Still one of the most picturesque streetscapes anywhere, Main Street’s commercial block boasts businesses that have been operating in the same building for more than a century, while the quaint building that houses the Pelletreau Silver Shop has stood at the north end of the street since 1686. Come hear the story the 370-year-old street has to tell about architectural trends and consumer preferences—what people were buying in Southampton and who was selling it to them. RSVP required space is limited.
