The Hamptons, often referred to as the “American Riviera,” was one of the premier resorts of glamour, luxury, and architectural achievement during the era from 1880-1930. The architectural styles ranged from shingle style, Mediterranean villas, Colonial Revival, Multiple English periods and the early beginnings of Art Deco and International styles. Many prominent architects, and landscape designers, created paradises for the financial titans and social figures of the day. These homes were created to serve as summer retreats from the hot northeast cities to provide a healthy environment of fresh air, seaside cooling breezes and to provide social backdrops for elaborate entertaining.
