Description

Come to the historic reenactment of the day the Declaration of Independence was read on the Village Green in the Town of Huntington in July 1775. This is one of the most unique celebrations of American Independence in the nation.  As on that day, the Order of the Ancient and Honorable  Huntington Militia, an 18th Century living history organization will read the Declaration of Independence in its entirity - on the same ground it was read - to all who attend - and people of the past who will portray both Patriots and Tories! As in 1776, some of those townspeople in their jubulation will make it well known that this is the greatest news they could hear - and they go wild! We will reneact all of this - with your help!

Before and after the "action" you will have an opportunity to speak to these people of the past. See how they feel. Ask them what their hopes are. Ask them what their fears are.

There will be 18th Century Trades demonstrations. There will be firing of muskets and the militia cannon. There will be free tours of the Historic 18th Century Arsenal at the edge of the Green. There will be children's "musket" drills in which they will learn how to march and "fire" a practice wood musket. They day is exciting and educational - and FUN!

The Declaration arrives at about 1:30 pm but arrive at Noon and spend the afternoon! History in text books just is not the same as time traveling to see it all in person!
