Date & Time
February is National Heart Month and Jefferson’s Ferry is hosting “Just for the Heart of It,” a fun, free, educational event on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2-4 p.m. Jefferson’s Ferry, a life plan community for active adults 62 years old and better, is located at One Jefferson Ferry Drive in South Setauket.
“Our lifestyle naturally promotes heart healthy living for residents through programs, activities, strong social connections and chef-prepared meals,” says Elissa Gargone, Director of Sales and Marketing at Jefferson’s Ferry. “By sharing our resources while having fun, we hope guests leave inspired and ready to develop new, heart healthy habits.”
The afternoon event includes:
Fun & Fitness
Fitness instructor Lynda Schoettl will lead two classes: an energizing cardio class and a chair yoga relaxation class. Casual dress and sneakers are recommended.
Health Check
Healthy Living Center staff will take guests’ blood pressures, pulse, and BMI and provide free literature on heart health.
“The Power of 9” Presentation
People who live long, quality lives have nine lifestyle habits in common, from managing stress and having a purpose to eating a plant-based-rich diet. During “The Power of 9” presentation, Health and Wellness Program Manager Joanne Lehmann will share small changes people can make to create a big impact on their wellness. These changes, she says, mirror the health and wellness philosophy practiced at Jefferson’s Ferry.
A Recipe for Heart Health
Enjoy salad platters prepared by Jefferson’s Ferry’s executive chef and stop by the smoothie station for a heart healthy treat. Take home recipes to try in your own kitchen.
Complimentary Massage
Studies show regular massage therapy lowers both the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the heart rate. Guests can start this relaxing habit with a complimentary chair massage.
