This Halloween edition of our virtual “Anything But Silent” series features Lon Chaney in The Penalty, in which a deranged criminal mastermind plans to loot San Francisco and plots revenge on the doctor who amputated his legs.
When Buzzard (Lon Chaney) was a boy, his legs were amputated by an incompetent doctor as the result of a traffic accident. Now an adult, he resolves to become kingpin of the underworld and have another’s legs grafted onto his. But an operation converts his evil mind, and agent Rose (Ethel Grey Terry) who has been monitoring Buzzard takes notice. Buzzard's old associates, however, aren't so thrilled.
