Description

The Cathedral of the Incarnation will host the Third Annual Long Island Early Music Festival at 36 Cathedral Avenue in Garden City. The festival includes four concerts, each one focusing on a particular theme and time period, promising an educational as well as artistic experience for attendees.

The first concert, “What is Love?” will take place on Sunday, March 31 at 4pm. The concert will feature songs about amorous love from both male and female perspectives, written by the Elizabethan period’s most eloquent composers. Soprano Katarina Montagna will join tenor Matthew Koraus with festival director Dr. Christopher Morrongiello on Renaissance lute.

Other concerts in this festival include Hofstra Collegium Musicum’s concert on Wednesday May 1 at 7:30pm, which features Renaissance and early Baroque songs that examine the inner thoughts of the mind. On Sunday, May 12 at 4pm, Lyracle will offer a concert of Italian and English music for the viola de gamba from the 17th century. James Peretta will play the viola de gamba accompanied by mezzo soprano Ashley Mulcaly.

The festival closes on Sunday, June 2 with a 4pm concert “Musical Splendors of Rome,” featuring Italian composers from the Baroque era. Alexandra Calabro and Ben Katz will perform on Baroque violin and harpsichord, respectively. Christopher Morrongiello will return on archlute, chitarrone, and Baroque guitar.
