Mokume Gane Boxes, Fall 2019, Sess. 1
Instructor: Justine Moody
This 17th century “wood grain” inspired design technique was originally developed in Japan as a way of creating decorative swords. This technique incorporates a stack of contrasting colors that are layered in thin slices. Once the layers are stacked high enough to create a block, the block is then sliced along the side. Students will learn how to manipulate the layers to achieve a variety of different results. This technique provides ornate sheets of beautiful patterns that can be used to cover your box or container.
