Description

The 1805 foxhunting case Pierson v Post, which has long been used in American property law classrooms, had its origins in Sagaponack when two wealthy young men squabbled over the ownership of a fox that had been pursued by one and killed by the other. Angela Fernandez, a legal historian at the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, puts the case in context in her book “Pierson v Post: The Hunt for the Fox.” Her meticulous research ranges over the literary, social and intellectual history of the times and the locale, but she also appreciates the witticisms and silliness that are the other side of the same coin.
