Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is pleased to announce that there will be two public hearings of the Suffolk County Heroin and Opiate Epidemic Advisory Panel. The first hearing will be held on Monday, September 24th, at 5:30 PM in the Hauppauge Legislative Auditorium, and the second hearing will be on Thursday, October 25th at 5:30 PM in the Riverhead Legislative Auditorium. The meetings will provide an opportunity for community members to speak before the panel.
Introduced through legislation in July 2017 by Legislator Anker, the Suffolk County Heroin and Opiate Epidemic Advisory Panel was established with the goal of providing ongoing guidance and input to the county in combating the opiate epidemic through preventative education, enhancement of enforcement efforts, and aiding in the treatment and rehabilitation of those addicted to opiates and heroin. The ever-evolving nature of the opiate epidemic requires continuous commitment to identify new resources and additional funding sources, and provide for greater focus on educating the public about addiction.
