The library welcomes Bohemia artist Elaine Faith Thompson for the unveiling of her (Professional Golfers’ Association) PGA of America painting commemorating the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black in May. The Long Island native has completed numerous paintings for the USGA championships of Long Island and the NY Metro area, but this is her first PGA painting. The commemorative painting depicts a young caddy, Thompson’s grandson from Sayville, who is now grown and currently deployed with the United States Marines. Thompson is also well known for her New York and Long Island scenic works including lighthouses, Sagamore Hill, Fire Island, as well as her portraits of Derek Jeter, John Heisman and “George Washington at Valley Forge.” Her most famous commission came from President Ronald Reagan for the official poster design of the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial Statue in Washington D.C. All are welcome to attend this artist reception where refreshments will be served. In the event of snow and library closing, the reception will be rescheduled for Thursday, April 11.
