More than one thousand walkers and supporters are expected to participate in The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter’s 18th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS fundraiser in Long Island, NY on Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 AM, at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY.
The Walk is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Before and after the Walk there will be family friendly activities such as face painting, music, mascots, refreshments, and other fun & games.
Every 90 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries and can affect anyone. It is estimated that more than 20,000 Americans have the disease at any given time and the average life expectancy is two to five years after diagnosis. There is no known cause, no effective treatment, and no cure.
