"Planting Fields Foundation is pleased to invite you to the opening of The Great Bird Blind Debate exhibition with Mark Dion and David Brooks. The site-specific art installations, composed in the Carl F. Wedell Bird Sanctuary, frame Dion’s and Brooks’ dueling views on bird watching as an activity and birders as a distinct community, with reflection upon the character and vulnerability of the habitat the observer occupies. Like the artists, both of whom have participated in numerous ornithology expeditions, Planting Fields founder W.R. Coe was also a bird enthusiast and endowed the Professor of Ornithology position at Yale University, an appointment that historically and currently has been filled by the world’s leading ornithologists.
Join us for this special viewing of the exhibition and dialogue with Mark Dion and David Brooks. Light brunch fare will be served. The reception will take place at the Carl F. Wedell Bird Sanctuary. A corresponding exhibition of The Great Bird Blind Debate will be on view inside Coe Hall."
