Description

STEP RIGHT UP! Celebrate National Circus Day and join us for a trip into this fascinating and iconic institution. When the final curtain fell on the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus last May, a 146-year American tradition—with roots in Ancient Greece and Rome—came to an end. The circus is a world within a world filled with acrobats, clowns, tightrope walkers, aerialists, and outrageous sideshows. On our journey we’ll meet two of America’s greatest showmen, P.T. Barnum and John Ringling, who created the golden age of American circuses. We will also consider the ethical issues surrounding the use of animals in modern circuses.
