Transforming Painful Emotions
In response to the conflict, pain and suffering we see all around us, we can easily experience discouragement, fear, grief, rage and other painful emotions. How can we work effectively with these emotions, and transform them into beneficial spiritual power? Buddha gave a special set of instructions for transforming adversity called “lojong,” or training the mind. Through this training, we go deeper into our heart to gain the inner wisdom and power to transform suffering into powerful, positive states of mind, such as love, compassion and joy. This power enables us to grow spiritually, and to exude a powerful positive influence on our world.
