In Honor of Veteran’s Day, the American Airpower Museum will dedicate its A-10 Warthog jet in the presence of Iraqi War Veterans

What:   Museum dedication of a veteran A-10 Warthog honoring all US veterans.

Where: American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY

When:  Wednesday, November 11 2015. 10:30 am

Why:    Recognition of a job well done for the A-10 and our veterans.

On Wednesday, November 11th, the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY will pay tribute to our men and women of the United States Armed Forces with the dedication of its A-10 Thunderbolt II jet better known as the Warthog. Among the invited guests will be veteran A-10 pilots and troops who have had firsthand experience of the A-10s devastating effectiveness on the battlefield. Former Fairchild Republic workers who were part of the A-10 program will also be on hand.

The A-10 is itself a distinguished veteran of the Middle East conflicts first having shown its capabilities during the Operation Desert Storm in 1992 where is was used to decimated Iraqi armor. Many of the combat veterans will tell you how relieved they felt when A-10s arrived overhead. The plane has been in a love hate relationship with the Air Force since it was conceived in the early 1970s. It is neither sexy nor high tech like the F-16 or F-35. It was designed for a single purpose; close support of our ground troops.

The American Airpower Museum received its A-10, serial number 80-0247, from surplus through the General Services Administration and the New York State Office of General Services last year. It was shipped via truck from Davis Monahan Air Force Base in Arizona to Republic Airport.

Visiting veterans will be offered the opportunity sign up to participate in our living history interview program. A recruiting station will be setup for anyone interested in joining the American Airpower Corps of volunteers. Refreshments will be served to all who attend.
