LONG ISLAND’S FIRST LITERARY FESTIVAL, BACK FOR ITS SECOND YEAR ON APRIL 3rd

New in 2016:  State-of-the-Art Venue; Stellar Authors; Panel Discussion

After a sold out event last spring in which 200 audience members filled the Sands Point Preserve to hear Susan Isaacs, Arlene Alda, Henry Alford and a slew of best-selling authors and writers reading their non-fiction works, Word Up: Long Island LitFest is back.

“The fest is a delightful, entertaining and highly valuable cultural event,” said Dick Cavett, who was a featured author.

This year Long Island LitFest is taking place on Sunday, April 3 at 1 pm at the state-of-the-art Madison Theater at Molloy College in Rockville Centre.  The theater seats over 400.  Each author takes a turn at the microphone to read one non-fiction work to the audience, who can also attend a free panel discussion just prior to the main event.

“Madison Theatre Molloy College is thrilled to be working with the Long Island LitFest.  This partnership is an important part of our continued mission of arts, education, and conversation,” said Angelo Fraboni, Artistic Director.

Best-selling authors such as Alan Zweibel (back by popular demand), Amy Ferris, Adam Resnick, Susan Shapiro, Elinor Lipman and others will take the stage in two sessions.   In between reading sessions, there will be opportunity for book sales and signings.   On-site bookseller Turn of the Corkscrew Books & Wine, based in Rockville Centre, is Long Island’s newest indie bookstore.

Also new in 2016:   LitFest ticket holders can participate in a FREE panel discussion on writing inspiration.  Space is limited to the first fifty people who register. The panel takes place before LitFest begins, from 11:30 – 12:15.  Panel moderator is former publisher of Savvy Woman, author Talia Carner.  Panelists are popular Long Island authors Liza Burby, Ellen Meister and Christine Kehl O’Hagan.  Advance registration for LitFest ticket holders is available at the Madison Theater Box Office (516-323-4444).

"The first ever Long Island LitFest was all I hoped it to be...and more,”  said author Arlene Alda, who participated in LitFest 2015. “There was a full house of responsive and eager listeners; an audience which liked to laugh. What could be better?! I loved every minute of it. I'm looking forward to a yearly tradition of LitFest from here on in.”

Now on sale, tickets are $30 and available here.  Early bird rate is $25; promo code is EBLIT (expires March 1).   For the complete schedule of events and more on this one-of-a-kind festival of words, visit www.LongIslandLitFest.com.
