About the Class
The art of Sumi ink is using the grinding stone with a Sumi ink stick to mix with water and make ink to the tone of your choice for various ink illustrations. In this class, we will learn how to grind the ink to make either a nice warm gray tone or a nice solid black with your mixture. The gray shade is great for laying over black ink to add shading and tone while the black is great for quick, illustrative sketches. We will go over both with some drawing lessons and exercises and work on a final piece.
Advanced registration and payment by credit card are required. Registration Deadline: August 13, 2019
About the Instructor
At a young age, Jay Stuart found himself drawing things inspired by the depths of his imagination. As he got older, he attended the School of Visual Arts studying illustration and cartooning. His work is mainly illustrations with India ink and brush but he also extends his illustration in acrylic paints and other mediums, bringing to his audience a set of imagery that only he can explain. Jay has now started Poppycock Productions which produces products like storybooks, tarot cards and comic books showing at galleries, events, and conventions…
