Long Island University’s 68th annual George Polk Awards in Journalism, celebrate the impact of courageous and authentic journalism on our national and global discourse. The George Polk Awards focus on the intrepid, bold, and influential work of the reporters themselves, placing a premium on investigative work that is original, resourceful, and thought-provoking.
This year, the George Polk Awards will be celebrated during three distinct events, highlighting the works of some of our winners, including David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post and Alec MacGillis of ProPublica for their reporting and truth-telling during the 2016 Presidential Campaign; educator, playwright and actress Anna Deavere Smith for creating a career that continues to shine light on important social issues like urban conflict, access to education and economic opportunity; and Nanfu Wang, whose documentary Hooligan Sparrow explores the international battle for women and human rights.
