Chris Esposito- sculptor, painter, and installation artist- has been chosen as the resident artist for Summer 2014 at the Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery. Alumni of Nassau Community College and Long Island University, he graduated from Queens College with a Masters of Fine Arts. Mr. Esposito lives in Queens, New York and chooses salvaged materials such as concrete, lumber, and steel to create stunning three-dimensional artworks that imply construction and deconstruction simultaneously. During his residency, Mr. Esposito will dramatically transform the gallery space into a site-specific installation, allowing the public to experience new awareness of architecture and "dialogue of the interaction between man and machine."
"The work I create translates observations into physical embodiments stripped of their cultural trappings. Employing an anti-aesthetic process of selecting specific found materials, these are then either constructed or deconstructed to create a juxtaposition of culture. Fueled by the revolution of everyday life I expose the cyclical nature of expansion and decay, hope and despair, confront political confinement and the reinforcement of ideology, examine the contradiction that exists between the history, the evolution and the inability to transcend the preconceived. Because after all, isn't art supposed to question the world of its time."
