Description

The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet's 2016 exhibit is "Building a Village....The Settling and Development of Islip Hamlet".  With the start of the 1692 patent granted to Andrew Gibb, Islip Hamlet began a glorious journey through its settlement and growth, eventually becoming the seat of the Town government.

Illustrated through narrative, photos, and maps, this exhibit depicts how one tiny colonial village blossomed to develop a Town Hall, a National Bank, a nationwide clamming industry, the finest schools in Suffolk County, thriving tourism, and its own airport. Learn what steps led to Islip Hamlet’s success and sustenance, and how one small village made its mark on Long Island.

The exhibit runs from September 10 to November 23, 2016 at Brookwood Hall History Room, 50 Irish La., East Islip (Tu-F, 10-4pm, Sa-Su, 12-4pm).  For more info, 631-245-0675, www.isliphamlethistory.org.
